The Democratic Party's policies (policy) are more liberal than those of the Republican Party. The Democratic Party tends to support poorer people by wanting to spend more money on education, health, and welfare. The party started about the time of Thomas Jefferson in the 1870s, when it was called the Democratic Republican Party. Around 1830 it began calling itself the Democratic Party. The party's symbol is a donkey. |
