New Zealand

New Zea·land1 /njuː ˈziːlənd $ nuː-/   
a country consisting of two main islands, North Island and South Island, and several smaller ones, in the Pacific Ocean, southwest of Australia. Population: 4,365,113 (2014). Capital: Wellington. It is known mainly for its framing, especially sheep. About 15% of the population are Maori people, who first came to New Zealand around 9th century AD, and who call the country Aotearoa. However, most of the population are people who came from the UK in the 19th and 20th centuries. People from New Zealand are known informally as Kiwis.
